Well, I'm now considering applying for AmeriCorps, the domestic version of the Peace Corps. It does have a few benefits--it'll give me a living stipend and pay off a chunk of my student loans, may pay for my relocation, and it'll give me that happy fun Experience that'll look good on my resume, and that you need to have when applying for jobs nowadays. Anyway, at least it's something.

Now, if they don't want me, I'm really going to be depressed.

Okay, application for AmeriCorps sent off. Now I'm trying to figure out what else I can do to maximize my chances of getting a job.

I think I would actually like to try one of those resume-blasting services...the ones that supposedly distribute your resume to umpteen zillion headhunters and recruiters for a fee. It does make sense, in a way...it'd be a lot cheaper than sending the resume individually to all of them by postal mail, and easier than scrounging up addresses for all of these people individually via the Internet. So far, the most reputable-seeming one I've found is SeeMeResumes. Hopefully I can talk my parents into bankrolling it...

Posted again to [livejournal.com profile] compassrose. Actually, I'd had that post ready for about three days, but was kind of waiting to see if anyone else would do anything first. They didn't, so...out it went. Maybe it'll spur more activity, but who knows.

Reading a thread over on RPGnet's forum that started as a discussion on profit margins of RPG books but turned into a discussion about making a living freelancing in the game industry. Interesting stuff, and for me it points up the fact that even if I do get into it, I need to have a real job to be making most of my money first.

It always comes back to that, doesn't it? Needing a real job. I sure hope I get something soon.

My parents say that they're going to consult with a nephew-by-marriage of theirs (cousin-by of mine) who works for a headhunting firm about the efficacy of it. I hope he provides them with an encouraging answer. If I still had enough money, I'd do it myself, but...after I pay the rent this month, I won't even have enough money for that.

I sure do want something to happen soon...

Well, keen...just got notification that one of the AmeriCorps programs to which I earmarked my application has taken it under review. At this early stage, I guess that's encouraging...
