I don't expect many people outside of the open-source community will understand precisely why this is such a big event, but the 1.0 version of the Mozilla open-source web browser has finally been released after four years of development. The project had so much trouble at the beginning that a lot of people were worried it would never come together. But now it has.

I've been using Mozilla as my primary browser on both Linux and Windows for several months now, and it's definitely come a long way. On Windows, I'd venture to say it's even better than Internet Explorer for many purposes...and on Linux, it's about the only choice if you want something that works.

If you've never tried it, check it out...you might just like it.

Been spending the morning checking various web service and computer service websites and phone numbers, and calling or sending email with my resume. It's kind of depressing...amost every number I called out of the yellow pages gave me that three-tone "this number is no longer in service" recording. I guess web development isn't quite as stable a business as some.

Sigh. I want a job so badly...

Just put a couple of things up on eBay. Could use the money. Hope they sell well.

Put some more stuff up on eBay.

At the moment, I'm selling a Targus Folding Keyboard for the Visor Deluxe--which is already up to $16.49 with three bids as I write this--the DVD of the edited version of the Batman Beyond movie, a Harry Potter sliding puzzle, and VHSes of Chinatown and The Two Jakes.

Follow along with me as they get bid on (or not) by clicking this link! Yay!

Buffeterie

Well, dinner was a bit of an experience this evening. I decided to drive down to CiCi's Pizza, which is about halfway across town. They're one of the few places I know that has an all-day buffet and actually has good pizza, too, so the trip is usually worth it.

This evening, I drove down there, and then discovered when I arrived...my wallet wasn't in my pocket. So, I drove all the way back to my apartment to get it, then returned to the restaurant with my appetite.

The pizza was good, as always...I had a good amount of it, plus some of their dessert breadsticks, and even some salad, too. But I fell prey to overzealous busboys, not once but twice--two times, I came back to the table where I had been sitting just a moment before, plate newly laden down with pizzaish goodness...to find my tray, and my drink, had vanished.

I can't really blame them for it, given that it's their job to keep the place clean so more guests can be seated, but it was a little annoying. Next time I'm going to bring along a notecard with a little "I am not finished! Do not take my stuff!" note on it.

Time to play the eBay waiting game again. Every five minutes, I reload the page to see if someone else has bid. It doesn't seem to happen very often.

I sure hope the stuff sells...

Snipe shot!

Woohoo! I have sniped!

There was an auction for something I wanted--a once-used copy of The Sims, and an unopened copy of The Sims Hot Date. I wanted the Hot Date...and figured I could sell The Sims. So I set up and waited, and waited, until just the right moment...and then, one minute before time out, I struck.

As soon as they get here, I'll keep Hot Date, then put the original game back on eBay. If I can sell it for $20 or so, I'll come out ahead.

I suppose I really shouldn't have, and perhaps I ended up paying too much...but man, what a rush, bid sniping. It's almost worth a few extra bucks just for that feeling of slipping in right under the wire at the last moment. I can see how this eBay thing can be addictive.
