Molly Grue

You are most like Molly Grue. The world, in your
opinion, has been unfair to you. Life, and it's
cruel realities have hardened your outlook and
have made you disenchanted and cynical. But,
deep down, there is still a part of you that
wishes to believe in fairytales and happy
endings. You are a fierce and loyal
companion, and anyone would be very lucky to
have someone like you one their side. Though
rigid and determined, you can also be full of
much love and gentle kindness, which you only
display to those that matter most. You have a
heart of pure gold - let it shine through.
Don't give up too easily on the world, there
could be many surprises waiting ahead. You just
have to look for them.

Which Last Unicorn Character are you? (UPDATED)

Okay, so I got to fiddling around with the music store last night, and redeemed four free songs...and bought an album. The songs, for the curious, are "Go" by Asia (I can't find my copy of Astra and wanted to hear it again), a version of "Sentinel" (the first part of Tubular Bells II) by Mike Oldfield (and a bunch of other people) off a "Pavarotti and Friends" album, "Career of Evil" by Blue Öyster Cult (about the only song of theirs I really like, other than "Don't Fear the Reaper," which I'll probably end up snagging later), "Green Eyes" by Jimmy Dorsey plus vocalists (a song I was partial to from the movie The Fabulous Dorseys) and an entire album of 19 big band jazz classics, including "Marie" by Tommy Dorsey plus vocalists (another song from The Fabulous Dorseys, and how I ended up finding the album), "Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing) Parts 1 & 2" by Benny Goodman, and of course "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller. 19 songs for $9.99...that's a pretty good price, and certainly a better deal than just buying one of the songs for 99 cents.

More later.

You're Catch-22!

by Joseph Heller

Incredibly witty and funny, you have a taste for irony in all that you
see. It seems that life has put you in perpetually untenable situations, and your sense
of humor is all that gets you through them. These experiences have also made you an
ardent pacifist, though you present your message with tongue sewn into cheek. You
could coin a phrase that replaces the word "paradox" for millions of
people.

Ah, the illicit joys inherent in gaming the system...

In an article linked on Slashdot, someone made the discovery that if you tip a bottle of Pepsi just right, at the proper 25 degree angle, you can see through the transparent plastic and air pocket up into the lid, so you can tell whether or not the bottle is a winner before you buy it. It's a little harder to do than the page makes it seem, especially when there is condensation or fingerprint-smearing on the bottle (I expect that for easiest viewing, it would be best to tote along a penlight), but I managed to get the trick of it. I bought eight bottles of Pepsi this evening, all of which I can say with certainty are going to win me free songs. Big change from 1 in 3 odds there.

Given that Pepsi doesn't expect anywhere near all of the caps to be redeemed anyway, might as well let the non-redeemers end up with the non-prizes.

The only downside is, I have to drink all that Pepsi before I get the free songs! :)
