Beating the bottlecap lottery...
Feb. 18th, 2004 09:24 pmAh, the illicit joys inherent in gaming the system...
In an article linked on Slashdot, someone made the discovery that if you tip a bottle of Pepsi just right, at the proper 25 degree angle, you can see through the transparent plastic and air pocket up into the lid, so you can tell whether or not the bottle is a winner before you buy it. It's a little harder to do than the page makes it seem, especially when there is condensation or fingerprint-smearing on the bottle (I expect that for easiest viewing, it would be best to tote along a penlight), but I managed to get the trick of it. I bought eight bottles of Pepsi this evening, all of which I can say with certainty are going to win me free songs. Big change from 1 in 3 odds there.
Given that Pepsi doesn't expect anywhere near all of the caps to be redeemed anyway, might as well let the non-redeemers end up with the non-prizes.
The only downside is, I have to drink all that Pepsi before I get the free songs! :)
