Anime weekend
Jun. 29th, 2003 11:23 pmWell, I had a reasonably decent weekend, in terms of getting rid of some stress. Saturday, I headed down to the folks' for a few hours in the evening, to eat dinner and visit. Today, I mostly just lounged around the apartment watching anime discs I'd gotten from Greencine. Finished out the third volume of Fruits Basket, and watched a bit of Mahoromatic; also finished watching Read or Die which I'd borrowed from a friend.
Fruits Basket is a wonderful little anime series, farcical and heartwarming by turns, and it's quite tempting to purchase it on DVD someday when I have money. Mahoromatic...well, it's essentially a technological version of Oh My Goddess, and substantially more raunchy than I'd expected. After watching the first couple of episodes, I'm not at all certain I feel like I want to continue. I'm not even sure I want to watch the other two episodes on the disc before sending it back. Perhaps having less time to watch stuff, and having a pretty lengthy turnaround time on what I can watch, has made me more choosy about what I'll sit through. Read or Die was a truly great little neo-pulp piece of work about the British Library's cadre of super-secret agents, sort of in the same vein as Giant Robo but without the robots. Perhaps I'll pick it up sometime to own.
That aside, though, I'm a little bit frustrated about something. I've spent literally the whole weekend trying to download the latest episode of Kamen Rider 555 from TV Nihon's IRC channel's DCCbots...and the download keeps dying about halfway through it. It's very frustrating. Hopefully the download will go through at last overnight tonight, so maybe I can watch it tomorrow morning before work.
