Got an hour lunch today so went by the Kmart to get a metal paper towel roll holder to replace the plastic one Aaron broke when moving me in. Then headed home to enjoy a light lunch in such nice settings. The place seems much roomier without the half dozen or so boxes I emptied out yesterday. It gives me a nice feeling of accomplishment to get boxes unpacked & out of the way. I can see a time in the near future when I have it all done, and I'm looking forward to it.

One thing that's kind of ironic though: now that I finally have a place in which I'm not ashamed to entertain, I don't have any friends to have over. Joe's always busy, and many of my college friends have moved on. I'd like to invite my net friends over, but I don't expect many to want to spend traveling money just to visit me. Oh well. If anyone does want to come down for a weekend, please let me know.

After work, I headed to a flea market and looked around. Picked up a decent, if somewhat ratty, bookshelf for $15, and a halogen floor lamp with dimmer for $5. Now my living room is basked in the light's cheerful warmth as I putter around, putting books and things onto the shelf. I've decided that the top shelf will actually be reserved for CDROMs and such for my computer; I have way too many of them for them to live happily in the shelf by my desk anymore, and by putting them on a bookshelf I get to alphabetize them so they're easy to sort through. The bottom two shelves are for my books, leaving the second one empty. For now, I'm putting instruction manuals that I run across in there, but I'm not really sure what I'll end up doing with either them or the shelf.

I'm starting to run into what I call the "kipple conundrum": where do I put stuff that's just stuff and can't really be categorized or stored neatly? Bumper stickers, buttons, instruction manuals, computer parts, odd appliances...there are all these things that I can live without (especially now that I don't have them cluttering up my room) and don't have anywhere to put, but conversely don't want to get rid of either. What do I do with it all?
