After work, I headed to a flea market and looked around. Picked up a decent, if somewhat ratty, bookshelf for $15, and a halogen floor lamp with dimmer for $5. Now my living room is basked in the light's cheerful warmth as I putter around, putting books and things onto the shelf. I've decided that the top shelf will actually be reserved for CDROMs and such for my computer; I have way too many of them for them to live happily in the shelf by my desk anymore, and by putting them on a bookshelf I get to alphabetize them so they're easy to sort through. The bottom two shelves are for my books, leaving the second one empty. For now, I'm putting instruction manuals that I run across in there, but I'm not really sure what I'll end up doing with either them or the shelf.

I'm starting to run into what I call the "kipple conundrum": where do I put stuff that's just stuff and can't really be categorized or stored neatly? Bumper stickers, buttons, instruction manuals, computer parts, odd appliances...there are all these things that I can live without (especially now that I don't have them cluttering up my room) and don't have anywhere to put, but conversely don't want to get rid of either. What do I do with it all?
