-Speaking of card slots, Nooks are among the few Android tablets these days that offer them. And HD/HD+ support SDXC cards; I have a 64GB card in my HD+.
-The official updates from B&N late last year added full Google Play so even if you don't replace the OS you still aren't locked into anyone's walled garden (other than Google's, anyway).
-I'm partial to iamafanof's builds. They're tuned more appropriately for Nook HD/HD+ than the CM nightly builds and they have CM's Privacy Guard enabled: http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013/12/20/cm11-0-kitkat-android-4-4-2-for-nook-hd-xx-20dec2013/
-You can run B&N's OS from a uSD Card, too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330083
-B&N's build quality is much, much better than Google's.

Date: 2014-06-02 03:17 pm (UTC)Just to note, the link you provided for iamafanof is for the HD+, not the HD. The most recent HD build of his I can find goes all the way back to January, well before the most recent CM 11 milestone. If he had a more recent one I'd certainly link it. (Also, given that his most recent build specifically states it is for a "bricked" HD+, I'd say you can apparently "brick" them to some extent. :) )
By "build quality" do you mean the quality of their hardware, or the way they build their OS?

Date: 2014-06-02 03:29 pm (UTC)Build quality is the hardware. Nexus 7 is flimsy, and is somewhat notorious for the screens cracking as a result. My 2013 Nexus 7 broke after less than a month. It broke while it was in my PADDED PACK. I wouldn't call the Nooks "tanks" but they're definitely more sturdy than Google's hardware.
