Thoughts on #Soylent
Sep. 23rd, 2014 05:39 pmWell, my first shipment of Soylent got here, only a year after I pledged in the Kickstarter for it. Good things come to those who wait.
So I took out the pitcher, dumped in a bag, shook it up, dumped in the oil mix, shook it up, and poured it over ice as recommended. And then I gave it a go.
It's interesting. It was thinner than I expected, for one thing. And it doesn't have a real strong flavor. I can see how I could drink it a lot without getting tired of it. Really, it's about like milk in terms of its overall intensity, if not the exact flavor. It'd be like getting tired of drinking milk. Vaguely reminds me of the time I tried Tigers Milk yeast drink. I wouldn't say it's so much "good" as "inoffensive". Has kind of a mild aftertaste, again pretty much the same way milk does. In a way, you could say it's like artificial milk, given that milk is supposed to give young animals all the nutrients they need at the time too.
I drank about a third of the pitcher's worth, in the form of three pint glasses half-full of ice. The first two glasses I had unflavored, the third I tried putting some vanilla in. Couldn't really tell too much difference. Maybe it'll make more difference when I can try it without ice. I might also try mixing a couple of tablespoons of Trader Joe's "Midnight Moo" chocolate syrup in and see how that makes it taste. (The instruction pamphlet that comes with it has several flavoring suggestions, including that one.) Given the stuff is about like milk as it is, I'll bet that will be pretty good. But the stuff actually did fill me up, so I guess further experimentation can wait for breakfast tomorrow, or at least just before I go to bed tonight.
