When the Kickstarters come
Aug. 26th, 2020 08:31 pmI had two items I crowdfunded arrive at the same time today. One of these is my brand new EPOMaker GK68XS Gateron Blue switched mechanical bluetooth keyboard. It's a nifty little portable keyboard, not much bigger than a letter envelope, but it's got full-sized, full-travel keys that are satisfyingly loud and clicky. I'm typing this entry on it now, in fact, via my Kindle 10 tablet. I may pack it in and move back to my desktop before too long, though; the browser keeps crashing on me and losing what I type.
It's not at all a bad little keyboard, really, even though it did cost me $95. Not only is it nice and tactile, it's also got colored backlighting that I can set to any of a number of different patterns. It's not at all a bad typing experience, and it's lightweight and feels pretty sturdy even though I didn't spring for the metal case style. It's interesting to note that this is the first accessory I've run across that uses the new mini USB3 connection standard, like you find on newer smartphones, not the old trapezoidal Micro USB. It came with various swappable keycaps, and even three spare Gateron Blue switches—because with this keyboard, if a key switch starts to go bad, it's easy to swap it out and not have to dump the whole keyboard.
The other purchase was The Elevated Craft Cocktail Shaker, on which I took the $49 Early Bird deal. (It's $53 now.) It's super-fancy with a number of amazing features, and I can't wait to try making a Pina Colada with it. Since the integrated measuring tumbler is in the lid, that should mean I won't have to worry about residue of the cream of coconut remaining in the measuring cup; it'll shake right into the drink when I shake it up, and the strainer in the cap means the ice will stay behind. I foresee a lot of tasty beverages out of this.
Looking forward to trying the shaker out, and the keyboard already is proving to be a pretty good buy.
