So much for that bright idea…
Apr. 19th, 2012 02:42 amWell, there goes my good mood for the week. At work today I was told the boss of my supervisor had objected to my army surplus lunch box, on the grounds that she was afraid it might concern people to see this padlocked military box sitting in the refrigerator. (As far as I know, nobody actually reported being concerned, just that she was afraid they might.) I'm going to try to appeal that decision, and ask if there's anything I can do to make the box more acceptable, but I'm not too optimistic.
I thought I'd found the perfect solution to the very determined thief who kept stealing the soda out of my original lunch box, even going so far as to unbend first the key rings and then the wire chain mail rings I used to secure the padlock in place. I checked department stores for lockable metal lunchboxes, looked around hardware stores to try to find some other kind of small lockable metal box that would serve to keep my lunch safe. I didn't find anything, until I hit on this ammo box idea. And it had worked so far.
It will be seriously aggravating if I'm not allowed to keep using it. At least my own supervisor is on my side—he's a great guy. But I don't know if that will be enough. So I guess tomorrow I'll be leaving it in the trunk until I find out if they'll let me put it in the fridge again.

You have a right to keep your personal property safe, and if they are going to encourage a work environment that condones and enables thievery, then you can't be held responsible when someone suddenly someone develops explosive diarrhea and projective vomiting from eating your ex-lax brownies and your peanut butter and ipecac sandwich.
It amazes me how bass-ackwards people can be to try and be PC or inoffensive yet unwilling to stand up for someone who is getting ripped off.
Any chance you can install a hidden cam? barring that, a screamer alarm for the inside of a regular lunchbox would also do the trick.
