Early morning panic attack

This is not going well. Only 3:00 AM on the first night I have this thing, and I'm already ready to claw it off my arm. I woke up all but having a panic attack. It itches like crazy, and even scratching in ways that I am sure the nurse and doctor who put it on would not approve of did not improve things very much. I wonder if Benadryl would help. I wonder if there's any stronger anti-itch medication I could get prescribed

How much worse is it going to be when I get a real cast?

I recall the itching on my leg cast was very, very maddening. So yeah, it's going to get pretty bad.

A lesson I learned then was- do *not* try to scratch under it with knitting needles or coat-hangars and such. There is cloth wrapping for padding under the cast. And I bunched it all up into a lumpy mess, which was worse than the itching.
