Weekend stuff

Over the weekend, I've been hanging out at the BioKinetic medical research clinic, acting as a blood sample machine so they can see how long a given medicine stays in the bloodstream. In exchange for loss of sleep and periods of hunger, I'm getting $250 and 3 1/2 free meals over the course of 36 hours. Of course, the loss of sleep won't end when I go home tomorrow morning. I still have to come back in tomorrow night, Tuesday morning, and Wednesday morning. Bleargh.
Much of today was spent showing Chinese movies via my laptop, first while sitting at a table having blood taken every few minutes, then piped out over HDMI to my next-draw-neighbor's TV set. This was my first chance to use the HDMI-out function of my laptop, and I found it worked really well. My only regret is that I didn't have any actual high-definition content to screen. I hadn't brought any because I thought there wouldn't be any opportunity to use it.
Sometime tomorrow, I get a free 16 gig wifi iPad. The new owners of the Teleread blog are sending it to me to review. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I would have had it already except that due to a mixup it got sent FedEx 3-day instead of next-day.
I've been really impressed by the new Doctor Who series so far. The second episode more than the first—the first, while pretty good, still felt like a bit of an RTD/10th Doctor retread. This new one shows the 11th Doctor starting to develop a unique identity. He looks like fun. And his Companion is definitely a treasure.
