The Avatar experience

Really cold today! Brrr.

Went out to see Avatar today. My complete non-spoiler thoughts on it are in my essay journal. Briefly: it may be a rehash of Dances with Wolves meets The Last Samurai, but the hyper-real world Cameron has created transcends any of the story's failings.

More than possibly any other movie ever, this is the film to see—to experience—in 3D on a big screen. On the small screen in 2D, it will just be Yet Another Dances with Wolves Clone.

Now I find myself wondering what movie to see when my parents come up on Christmas Day. I had been thinking about seeing Sherlock Holmes, since I really liked Downey Jr. in Iron Man and that's the only Downey movie available until May's Iron Man 2. But now I think maybe my folks might enjoy Avatar, and maybe I should watch it one more time before it disappears from the 3D screens too.

Not much else has happened today apart from that. I'm pretty tired. Maybe I'll go to bed soon.

Worth paying that much $ or wait to see on home theater?

I'll go read your essay review. I usually wait for the DVD before seeing things anymore.

Worth paying the extra money if you're going to see it at all. This movie will lose SO MUCH on the small screen.
