I am the man in the moon / And I hope to shine upon you very soon
Parents came up for a visit yesterday. They brought sufficient tools for my Dad to crimp together my kit-bit stereo wires with crimping tubes rather than the temporary duct tape solution I had been using, and also sandwiches. After lunch we headed out to the Moxie to see Moon, which my Dad had indicated he would prefer over my first choice, Ponyo.
As it happened, Moon was still an excellent movie, and Sam Rockwell was an amazing actor. I can't explain what was so amazing about his performance without giving away a major plot twist, but suffice it to say that he did a remarkable job acting under very challenging conditions and made the movie's cast seem larger than it actually was. Hard to believe it's the same guy who was nameless extra "Guy Fleegman" in Galaxy Quest and Zaphod Beeblebrox in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (which I haven't seen yet). He had a great knack for comedy in Quest and Moon should cement his chops as a serious actor once and for all.
My brother Aaron is going to be in town at the end of this week and expressed an interest in seeing it. Apparently Dad talked it up to him. (I hope he didn't spoil it.) Unfortunately, it stops showing at the Moxie on Wednesday. I'm glad I got to see it twice, and I'm going to have to get the DVD when I can. Wonder if it'll be out in time for the convention? We could run it in the film room.
At the moment I'm sitting in The Coffee Ethic getting ready to pack my laptop back up and hoof it down to the convention meeting, perhaps stopping for a dog or Philly Cheesesteak at Merle's on the way. May have more to say after I get to the meeting.
