Indianapolis is a really great city, with a low cost of living, lots of brewpubs and even several wineries and distilleries, several big pop-culture conventions per year (GenCon, Indy PopCon, ComicCon, etc.), the Indy 500 and the Colts, a good job market, and Chicago just a few hours away. See the guidebook I wrote for more details about some of the cool stuff that can be found here.
I currently live alone in a century-old two-bedroom condo in Indianapolis, which is owned by my brother. (I'm planning on paying him back for it, gradually.) I've got room for a housemate, and I was wondering if any of my friends or acquaintances might be interested in living here. For details, read on.
The condo is located in Irvington, not far from the intersection of Ritter and Washington. It's in a nice neighborhood, with plenty of restaurants, pubs, etc. It's right next to a public library and a couple of churches, five miles from the downtown area, on a bus line that goes right there, plus is convenient to a BlueIndy electric car rental station. It's got a detached garage, too, though I'm not currently using it for a car. For a potential housemate to live in, I have available one bedroom on the second floor, that I currently use for a guest room and not much else. You'd have access to the amenities, including a kitchen with fridge and gas stove, laundry machines in the basement, a big screen TV, wifi, and so on.
I don't really expect anyone to go for this offer, but it can't hurt anything to leave it open. I was thinking it would be great for someone who wanted to move to Indianapolis and find a job. It would be a place to stay while you were looking for work (and I'd be happy to recommend you for a job at Anthem, if you had that desire), and if you wanted to move out to someplace bigger after you found one, that would certainly be feasible.
Here are the requirements as I see them:
I need to know you, at least as an acquaintance. I'm not really interested in rooming with a complete stranger, and it would be nice to have someone I can get along with.
You need to pass muster with both my brother and the inhabitants of the other 7 units in the condo. So, y'know, you need not to be too weird, or else be really good at faking normality. :)
You need to get along with cats, though not currently have any of your own; I've already got two which is the per-unit limit. (Though it's possible we might be able to negotiate an exception, if you have one you want to bring.)
You need to not have too much stuff—because most of the place is already full up with mine.
You need to be able to get along with my slovenly habits. I'm kind of a total slob. If you're willing to help prod me into keeping the place clean, that would be a bonus.
You need to be willing to do stuff with me from time to time, like watch movies or whatever.
You need to be willing to pay something in rent, once you've got a job. We can negotiate it, but it'll be below the going rate, for sure. It'll be going to help me pay for the condo, after all.
Not sure anyone out there meets those requirements. But I just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone did. If you think you do, message me and let's talk. :)
