Recasting couch
Jun. 2nd, 2011 11:39 pmThis morning before work, I went by the Cox Urgent Care Center again to have my cast rewrapped. It was slightly a comedy of errors. They looked at the cast that I had, and asked "who put this on?" and seemed surprised to learn it was a nurse at the very center. They even asked me if I could describe the person.
They were also startled to learn that my orthopedist appointment was as late as Monday, with Dr. Rogers—they seemed to be under the impression that I was supposed to be seeing one of their own physicians this week. This is after the person that I spoke to originally even went so far as to write Dr. Rogers's number on my paperwork so I would know who to call to make the appointment.
They went ahead and put a whole new temporary cast on my arm—and I'm a bit ambivalent about it. It's certainly sturdier than the other one, and it has padding so it won't mess up my skin the way the first one was starting to. But it's also longer and more intricate than the first one was—and it partly encloses my hand, so that I can't write at all with my left hand the way I could before. Hopefully the permanent cast I get will give me a little more freedom of motion with my hand.
I also hope that the break is as simple as I was originally led to believe. The doctor I spoke to today was kind of hesitant about making any pronouncements about the break whatsoever; he was all "I will let the orthopedist tell you about that." Not exactly confidence-building.
Well, I have the appointment on Monday, and I am looking forward to it—and I also have an appointment of 6:30 AM Saturday at Biokinetic for my exit physical for the study I am having to drop out of because of the arm. We'll just see how that goes.
