Here are the things I am willing to confess to having done today:
  • 07:02 Settling into the morning procrastingating-going-to-work routine. #
  • 08:11 At work, eating breakfast, facing the prospect of someone having an actual assignment for me for a change. #
  • 13:16 Back from lunch, trying to get my mind on the job. #
  • 16:26 Homeward bound. #
  • 18:00 Heading out to con planning committee meeting. Maybe we'll decide on a name, or even a date. #
  • 21:07 Meeting went fairly well, we got some things semi-decided and narrowed the choices on other things. We proceed apace. #
  • 22:17 Showered, getting ready for bed. Evernote looks fascinating. Wonder if it'll work with my new phonecam eventually. Might be worth a try. #

Today I received my new phone, a Motorola RAZR2. Definitely the best phone I've ever had, and only cost me a penny. I spent a large part of the day playing with it, and with Evernote, a neat little program I found.

What is Evernote, you might ask? It's hard to describe in just a few words. It's a whole new class of application, and there's no pat word like "blog" to describe it. It bills itself as your "external memory." You can commit notes, text, webpages, and other things you don't want to forget.

Including photos. The really neat bit is that you can snap photos with your phonecam, email them to your assigned address, and it stores them for you—and also processes them to recognize any text and index them by it. It even works reasonably well on handwriting, as long as it's block printing. So I might take a photo of a sheet of paper where I wrote down potential anime titles to show at a con's screening room—and then later on, if I search on "Miyazaki," that photo will come right up.

Needless to say, this can be very handy for things you need to remember but don't want to take the time to write down. For instance, keeping track of business cards—or taking a photo of that neighbor whose name you never can remember and tagging it with his name when you send it in. Or taking shots of menus, schedules, and other information you want to have handy.

Currently Evernote is invitation-only, but I have ten invitations to give out, so anyone who wants one, drop your email address in a comment. I'll screen and delete them afterward so you don't end up attracting spam.

I've been amusing myself by making custom ringtones for when my family calls me. My parents' is "Papa Loves Mambo" by Perry Como, and my brothers get Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, "Brother of Mine."

Now if I could just figure out how to tether my Nokia 770.

Wonder what these lyrics mean. The only Latin to English translators I find on the Internet don't get half the words and don't make much sense out of what's left…
