Okay, so I've updated my
essay journal an unprecedented
two more times today: first with another grumble about Presidential campaigns, and second with a story concerning web publisher Keenspot I found quite remarkable when I heard it. The second one in particular I spent a lot of time on, trying to make it as close to "real journalism" as I could, as I went ahead and submitted it to BoingBoing after I was finished and I hope it gets linked from there. Maybe I'll submit it to Slashdot, too.
But with that in mind, there was a paragraph I really liked, but knew I probably should excise from the story as semi-irrelevant. In the spirit of not wanting to lose it entirely, and in the hopes of inciting curiosity from you, I give you the scene that was removed from the "director's cut" of my latest essay journal entry. In the article itself, it should fall right after the words "take up residence" and before the words "Having grown up."
As Kurtz says, this story might make a better movie than would some of the comic strips Keenspot hosts. I don't know about Michael J. Fox, though. I was thinking more like David Byrne's True Stories, or perhaps Gung Ho. Possibly even Pleasantville.
