Well, here I am down at the parents' place in Barry County. Drove down with Dad after work last night, stopped in Republic to pick up some tax-free clothes and some cheap DVDs, then headed home. Watched A Mighty Wind with the parents, after showing them brief clips from This is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride just to illustrate the versatility of the actors. They quite enjoyed it, so we watched the deleted scenes and musical performances afterward.

This morning, Dad went back to bed while Mom & I headed in to Cassville to deposit a check that it was urgent be deposited today for some reason. Stopped by Wal-Mart to see if there were any cheap DVDs worth buying, then headed back home for lunch. I was going to show a bit of Buster Keaton's The General...but I managed to crack the disk trying to pull it out of the case. Oops. Luckily it was just a cheap $5.50 disc anyway. And it was the impetus I needed to order a better version from Amazon...a version with an actual new score instead of random classical music.

Tonight the plan is to watch The Triplets of Belleville, then we go to church tomorrow, we buy my new monitor, and then they drop me off at home with it. Yay.

My parents and I watched The Triplets of Belleville tonight. None of us had any idea what to expect...I had been careful to go into the movie unspoiled.

I'm not sure what I was expecting. Something like The Rescuers, I guess. Some kind of straightforward "grandmother with nowhere else to turn gets in touch with some old singing buddies of hers" type of story.

Boy was I wrong, both in terms of plot and expectations. By the time I was five minutes into it, I was going, "...um. This may be entirely too weird." By the time I was fifteen minutes into it, I was sure that it was entirely too weird...but I liked it that way.

To say anything more about it would be a spoiler...but it's a totally one-of-a-kind movie that should not be missed.

I'll probably put something about it up on my essay journal at some point. Now, I gotta sleep.
