Thursday morning was a bit...involved. My brother showed up with the new car. It actually looked a bit different than I expected, but then, I'm not entirely sure what I expected. My first impression was, "That looks like an elderly person's car!" But, of course, that's only because it was...and now that I've gotten used to it, I have to admit I find it rather gorgeous.

The morning was hectic and frantic as Aaron and I went to the courthouse to get property taxes taken care of, then to the license bureau to get my license renewed, then to the bank to get more money, then back to courthouse, and then to the license bureau again to get the car re-titled and licensed, and then to the ATM again to get more money, then back to the license bureau...along the way, I got a singularly ugly picture taken of me for my driver's license, made several phone calls to the county collector's office in the county where my folks live, and had to have my brother write a check for me because I didn't have one myself. A friend of mine had a Biblical citation in his email signature, about how the Bible describes college: "Many people run back and forth, and knowledge is increased." That's how Thursday morning was.

Friday, Saturday, today... )

As for the car itself? It's great. It looks terrific, especially now that it's washed and waxed. The upholstery is comfy, it's still in largely pristine condition thanks to having been garaged for most of its 14-year life and only driven 28,000 miles. The radio works and sounds great. The air conditioner and heater work. The cruise control works. According to the guy I was car-pooling with, who I showed it to when I got off work Thursday, it still has the new-car smell to it. (I can't really smell, so I couldn't tell.) It has a lot of power under the hood...where my old car felt like it was about to come apart if I had to pass someone, this one will do it with power to spare. It's so smooth compared to the old rattletrap, it feels like I'm going only about half as fast as I really am. I can hardly wait until next time I get to go to K.C. to visit [livejournal.com profile] tbutler.
