I've discovered a handy Java ssh client that gets around the crippling of the personal-use Internet terminals here at Worldcom. It'll even open a terminal in a separate window, so I can browse the web or update my LJ at the same time as I'm on-line. Best of all, it's available as a Debian package, so installing it was as easy as an quick apt-get.

In class right now, we're learning about KnowledgeBase and Sherlock, which are a couple of specialized WWW intranet tools that contain all the information we need to know about MCI issues. They look really complicated, but I expect that by the end of the four week period I'll know much of what there is to know about them.

Break's just about over; better get back.

Got an hour lunchbreak today...perhaps because we've started learning about some really complicated software. It's a little intimidating, all those different windows, even if some of them are actually obsolete and just kept around because people are used to using them. I have to keep telling myself that hey, I've got three and a half weeks of training ahead of me, I'll pick up the details as we go through these things.

One thing's for sure, this isn't the sort of busywork that passed for training at Kmart.
