Almost time for work...
Oct. 8th, 2002 10:00 amI'm sitting at one of the public-use computer terminals in the Library Center, about a mile north of the headquarters of QuikDine. It's 15 minutes before I have to be at work; I stopped by to show off my uniform to Jeanne Duffey, my former-aunt-by-marriage who works here at the library in the publicity department. She was decently impressed, I think.
Earlier, I stopped by the new Krispy Kreme, about a mile north of here, just to see what all the commotion was about. It was really something, how the place was set up. There were a couple of cop cars, with flashing lights going, parked along the east side of the street to direct people into the parking lot; the lot was set up with orange traffic cones to turn it into the equivalent of the roped-off stand-in-line areas you see on amusement park rides or ticket booths—only this was for cars to go through the drive-through! There were tents and vans from various radio stations, a smaller roped-off-line area under a tent for customers on foot to wait, and people wandering around with tanks on their backs dispensing free coffee. I didn't even get near the door, there was such a line. I didn't feel like waiting 25 minutes for a doughnut or two, so I took the complementary cup of coffee and went on my way. Mighty good coffee, though.
Getting to be time to get on my way down to the HQ area. I'm a bit nervous, especially since I didn't sleep well last night. I'm hoping and praying everything goes okay and I don't have an accident. I'll report further later on today or tonight as I have the chance.

We're in the money, we're in the money...
Oct. 8th, 2002 01:06 pmI've picked up and delivered two orders so far—big ones, the kind that have the tip pre-figured in. Made a total of about $32 in tips so far. I've been at loose ends for the last half hour or so, so I stopped in at my old Kmart to buy a belt clip on which to store the spare car key. (We leave the car running at all times, you see, to power the onboard cooler and hotbox, and use the spare key to get in and out.) Then I cruised on up to the Brentwood branch library to use the Internet terminals. I hope they don't throw me out if my radio loudly goes off while I'm in here. :)
(no subject)
Oct. 8th, 2002 02:55 pmAfter those two large orders, I didn't get any other orders; I spent an hour or so delivering some checks around, then was recalled to the base station, since there wasn't any more business at the moment. The supe gave me one of the cellphone/radio units to take home with me, by which they'd call me in if they needed me. He said it was possible I might get a call in tonight.
I went up to the library center and blew $6 on a ham and cheese sandwich at Churchill's, and then went over to the Internet terminals to make this entry. I'm not sure what to do now...maybe head home and nap for an hour or two. If I do get called back in tonight, it'd be good to have caught up on my sleep.
