Well, I found a [livejournal.com profile] linux user group and posted my problem there. Maybe someone'll be able to help me out. In the grand scheme of things, I suppose, it's not all that big of a problem...but it sure is annoying.

Going to see about eating some breakfast now, and then return and cast a baleful eye upon my room, which has become a trash-filled roach pit again. Time to put away the clean laundry, put the dirty laundry in the baskets, fill a few trash bags with trash and junk, see if there's anything I can box up and take home to free up some space, then bug-bomb the little bastards back to the stone age. Again.

I need a real job, and a real apartment. Sigh.

In the "thaaaat's nice" department, I was just at the St. Louis Bread Company eating breakfast and reading the news on my Clie, when one of the half-a-grain-of-rice-sized screws that holds the battery pack in place just popped right out and landed on the table. It's a good thing that I was sitting at the table when that happened and noticed it, as opposed to walking down the street, or I might never have found that screw.

I carefully placed it in the empty water cup I'd been drinking from so I wouldn't lose it, took it back to the room, and carefully screwed it back in. I noticed the other one was loose, too...and apparently has a thread stripped or something so it won't tighten all the way. Joy.

Well, I haven't gotten much done cleaning up my room. Been too busy noodling with Linux, on the advice of people over in the [livejournal.com profile] linux community, trying to make things work better. Not much success so far. Well, I did get rid of xfs and get truetype fonts set up to work, but other than that, not really much progress. I'd like to be able to use eterm again, but I don't know how likely that's going to be anytime soon. Honestly, maybe I should just rip the guts of my Linux installation out and start again from the ground up.

Yeah, like that's gonna happen.

Also tried installing OpenOffice, but couldn't get it to work except running it as root. So away it goes. Maybe sometime I'll get Codeweaver's Office Wine thingie, if I ever have the money. It's just not that important right now.

Well, I finally went ahead and set up a "buy me stuff" list at Amazon. Mainly for friend and family use around Christmas and birthday time. I'm not exactly a webcam girl, after all. But hey, if someone wants to waste some money on me, who would I be to turn them down? And it does seem like a good way to keep track of stuff I wouldn't mind having.

I'm feeling sort of disconnected from things. Not sure why...maybe that I didn't get much sleep last night, and I'm a little hungry. I should probably go and see what I've got in the freezer that I can turn into something food-like...but that would likely mean doing the dishes so I'd have stuff to eat in, and I'm not sure I'm prepared to deal with what I'd see there right now. The state of my current finances is such that I really can't afford to do anything but eat something I have...I'm sure I'll feel better once I've eaten, but the effort of fixing something seems like it would take more energy than I have.

Maybe I should just crawl into bed and sleep a while...but my bed has stuff all over it, and I'll have to expend the energy to clear it off. Whee.
