"It's pronounced 'clee-YAY!'"
Apr. 10th, 2002 11:02 pmWell, I have my new Clié 415. I called my credit card people and got them to give me a temporary credit limit increase, and thus armed, I nipped on down to Circuit City to purchase the device. The salesman had said that they'd have it whenever I came down...but as it turned out, they didn't. They just had the demonstration model, and it didn't have a stylus!
So they knocked $30 off the price for me. At my current financial level, well, I'd have been a fool to turn that down. So I bought the thing, added on a $50 2-year warranty expansion, and also got some WriteRights for the sanctity of the screen.
Anyway, happy in my Cliéation, I then headed over to Best Buy, in the next shopping center over. They hadn't carried the Clié last time I'd checked, but I thought that perhaps they might have some sort of suitably generic stylus there that could be made to work.
Well, to my surprise, not only did they have the 3-pack stylus that was the proper kind to work with the Clié 415--but they had the Clié 415 itself there, at the same price as Circuit City but with a $25 rebate, too!
Now, Circuit City has a 110%-of-the-difference policy on the items they sell--if you find it cheaper somewhere else within the next 30 days, they give you 110% of the difference in price. And that does include rebates. Sooo, I zoomed on back over to Circuit City and got a further $29 taken off the price of the Clié.
So. Not only did I get it at about $60 cheaper than list--well, $55 cheaper if you count the cost of the stylus--but I got the discount now, instead of sending it in to Best Buy and waiting six months for them to get back to me. I'm...happy.
Granted, the screen really could be better, and the writerights are slightly annoying in that they're just barely too narrow and too long, but it's dealable. Tomorrow I go to buy a 64 meg memory stick to hold books and things.
