A Piece of the Auction

Well, today I went out and about again, to pick up some books my Dad had wanted at the used bookstore which was having its annual 20% off sale. I got them, and a few for myself...and also a few for eBay. I've put up a few items for sale there, hoping to pick up a little more money.

One lady came through my line the other day who said she hadn't had to work since her daughter was born thanks to selling stuff on eBay. While I'm doubting I can maintain that level of sales, it would still be nice if it were possible to make a little cash out of things.

The Last Auction Hero

I've done pretty well so far today; sold my old TI-86 graphing calculator (which I've had for years) for $60. Not bad considering it cost $100 new several years ago. Considering depreciation, I probably came off better than it looks.

Also sold a copy of The Story of the Stone by Barry Hughart for $15. Given that I paid about $6 for it new, that's definitely not bad. Maybe I should try picking up and selling some more hardcovers.

The only thing is, since I sold both of those with "Buy It Now," which is where someone can bypass bidding and pay a fixed amount to get the item now, I find myself wondering if maybe I shouldn't have set the prices a little higher.

Oh well. Profit is good.
