Goin' to Jericho
Dec. 7th, 2001 11:50 amThe movie is Jericho. It's a Western, made by a Springfield director (who formerly taught at the college I attend), and starring some Springfield talent (most notably Woody P. Snow, a local radio station D.J. who had a national country music hit duet, "Underground River," with some female singer a while back) as well as some "real" actors--including Mark Valley, Leon Coffee, and drill sergeant R. Lee Ermey.
The user comments from those who've seen the movie already (at film festivals, undoubtedly) have been good, and it's also taken some awards at film festivals--the 2000 Crystal Palm Award for Best
Feature, and the 2001 Platinum Award for Independent Theatrical Feature Films - Action/Adventure. I've been going through a Western kick recently, the comments are promising, and I figure I might as well see it at the premiere as anywhere else . . . so I guess I'm going. Besides, I've never been to a movie's national theatrical debut before. It might be fun!
I'll post some comments on it when I get back from it tonight.

My Christmas wish list
Dec. 7th, 2001 04:51 pmI'm putting this up mainly as a reference for the local friends & family with whom I exchange gifts. They never do seem to know what to get me--and what the heck, maybe this'll get 'em reading my journal, too.
The main thing I would enjoy would be DVDs. I'm a DVD-watching fiend. (Note: If there's a choice between widescreen and fullframe, go with widescreen. If there's a choice between regular and special edition, go with special edition.)
Particular titles of interest: Any James Bond movie except For Your Eyes Only, Goldeneye, Moonraker, Never Say Never Again, and Tomorrow Never Dies, which I already have, and The Man With the Golden Gun, which I do not want. (Note: Special Editions only, please.) Any Akira Kurusawa film. Any John Woo or Chow Yun Fat film except God of Gamblers, A Better Tomorrow I & II and the tv-movie version of Once a Thief, which I already have. The Tsui Hark movies A Chinese Ghost Story I or II (not the animated movie, which I already have). Any of the sequels to The Magnificent Seven, which I already have. Any Clint Eastwood western except A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, which I already have. $25 Best Buy gift certificates work well, too.
I also would like the computer game The Sims: Hot Date, which is the one Sims expansion I do not yet currently have. And perhaps a decently-featured Gerber tool to replace the one I lost a couple of months ago.
