According to this article, AT&T and Excite have been in a little tiff, since AT&T didn't want to pony up another hundred million dollars or so to continue their service with them. So a bunch of AT&T's customers got dropped, AT&T is hastening to switch them over to its own high-speed network that it's been building, and now it's in doubt they'll even go through with their purchase of Excite at all--since their one reason for doing it was to ensure uninterrupted service to their customers. Way to go, Excite bondholders, you've just endangered the one buyout offer you had.

I continue to be quite happy that Mediacom bought my service area from AT&T a few months ago . . . I'm still connected up and chugging right along.

It!There's a story on Slashdot with links to some articles about It. Looks pretty neat, doesn't it? (or should that be "doesn't It"?)

Too bad it's going to be $3,000. I'd be more likely to get a decentish used car for that amount of money. But perhaps in a few years the price will come down, the technology will improve, and when I have a real job I'll get one then. You have to admit, it does look pretty neat.
Well. Tomorrow I have to report in to the courthouse, at 9 a.m., for jury duty. Rah rah. It could not have come at a worse time, what with all the final projects being worked on and due and things. I'm hoping that perhaps I can convince them to put it off for a while for me. I'm so silly, I should have sent in the form asking for a six-month deferral, but at the time I thought there wouldn't be any problem, it would just be an in and out thing. I hadn't thought it through. It's more likely that this is just preliminary selection, and I'll get to go for one or two days of boring jury work.

Well, I'll go, and see what happens. Maybe there'll be a way to get out of it. Maybe I can convince them to postpone my service in person. Or maybe it'll be more interesting than I think.

Anyone know any good (legal) methods of disqualifying oneself for jury duty? :)
