Whedon is right about the addict angle. It is addiction. The way the human brain works, we get a little squirt of dopamine when we learn something. The brain's pleasure/reward center gets activated regardless of importance or triviality. Social networks feed this and feed on it. They've turned the first world into a society of drug-crazed lunatics.

Yes, I'm fully aware that I am feeding it and feeding on it with this post.
