Or caught on fire, anyway.
This morning I was in my room rummaging for some stuff, didn't find it, and went back out to noodle on my computer.
About ten minutes later, I noticed a lot of smoke coming out of my room, and discovered that my space heater had apparently gotten turned on somehow and caught fire. It was still perfectly upright, so the tip-over switch hadn't turned off, but I guess maybe something fell on it.
Some fast action with a wastebasket full of water put the fire out, but I still have a scorched place in the carpet and a soot-blackened ceiling. On the "bright" side it's not the room's carpet but a faux-Asian rug I had covering it. On the not-so-bright side, it scorched a big burned spot and melted a couple of plastic lumps into the carpet. :(
And, of course, the really bright side is that it didn't burn more.
