LiveJournal-aided nostalgia
Jul. 22nd, 2010 07:26 pmThe nice thing about using an LJ archiver is that you can easily search through your old entries—then when you find the ones you want, you can go to the month and day listing in the archives page to get the link to it.
My training, and being back in the old MCI building, has me nostalgic for some of the entries I made back in those days. Given that I was actually writing here a lot more back then (for some value of "here"—if you're reading this on Dreamwidth, I'm talking about LiveJournal), there's more of a complete record of those old days.
For instance, here's the entry about the night I got to go to Club MCI, because (as I found out earlier that month) I was the top rep and in the top bay for the period.
A few months later, I found out I was going to be laid off…shortly before learning I'd gotten a 28-cent raise. Irony wasn't quite through with me yet, as call center closing or not, MCI continued to churn out cheerful T-shirts to everyone (I sardonically modified mine with a sharpie marker), and a 1-year-anniversary lapel pin with a letter that said they looked forward to celebrating future anniversaries with me. (I still have the pin, stuck into my much-decorated denim jacket.)
And then the MCI chapter of my life closed with the double-whammy of my wrecking my last car, then the final day of work. (Huh. That's another bit of odd symmetry with this new job. The last time I owned a car, I worked in the MCI building. Now I own a car again…and I again work at the MCI building. Life is strange.)
7:30. Time to head to bed.
