Call me! On the line…

robotech_masterThis is kind of neat. Google Voice lets me put a widget on my LJ and Dreamwidth profiles (and a few other places, like my personal homepage, blog, etc.) that people can click on, enter their own phone number, and be directly connected to my telephone without my ever giving out my own number. (They can check a box to keep their number private from me, too.) They don't even have long distance service, just be able to take an incoming call—because Google Voice is calling them.
So I have. Even though I'll be burning minutes on my cell to talk to anyone who calls me, I have a truly ridiculous number of rollover minutes because I just don't talk on my phone that much. (If it weren't for all the text messaging and Internet use I make, I'd probably be better off with pay-as-you-go. :P) The nice thing is, if it gets too annoying, I can always just remove it and poof: I don't get those calls anymore.
