TV Tech Support man saves the day!
Jan. 26th, 2014 10:21 pmWell, every so often I get the chance to prove I'm not totally useless after all. :)
Today the remote on my brother's DVR stopped working, and they were worrying about it not still being under warranty, and costing a huge sum of money to replace.
Then I spoke up with the standard trick that was always the first thing we tried for non-functional remotes when I was doing tech support for Insignia: "Have you tried taking the batteries out and pushing every button twice?" That uses up any remaining charge left in the remote's capacitors so it can reset itself, you see.
They hadn't, but they did. And it worked!
I love that trick. Such a simple thing, but it's like magic when it works. And it works much more often than you'd expect—and hence, saves people from having to order costly remotes.
Not to mention, making the guy who suggested it look like a hero. :)
