So, at 2 a.m. last night I woke up and barely made it to the bathroom before throwing up.
I then proceeded, over the course of the following 10 hours, to throw up 16 more times. The later times especially were nasty. Sometimes my stomach fruitlessly turned itself out while I made "Captain Needa" noises, and other times I was afraid I was about to have the "Jimi Hendrix Experience."
After ten or so times vomiting, I managed to get through to Mary Ellen, my two-doors-down neighbor who is studying to be a nurse. She had planned to use this day for studying, but after finding out how bad off I was, she came over to help, snagging some electrolyte fluids and such along the way.
Unfortunately, I couldn't keep anything down. Including the fluids I needed. And after consulting with my sister in law, Rachael (a Medical Doctor herself) I decided it would be best to betake myself down to the Urgent Care Center. Mary Ellen drove me there, and over the course of the next four hours they pumped three liters of saline solution into me (I had gotten really dehydrated!), along with some anti-nausea meds, and they gave me a bottle of The Best Anti-Nausea Drug Ever to take home with me. (Ah, Phenergan, how I do love thee.)
Since then, I've dozed/slept for about five hours—and I have to add here my great admiration for an iPhone program called Easy Relax Ultimate. I was able to use it to surround myself with the sounds of a heavy thunderstorm, which gave me something to focus on so my background thoughts wouldn't run away with me. (It's weird: when I'm feeling run down or very ill, it's like the various parts of my consciousness start muttering to each other, and that's the only way to tune out the muttering so I can relax and sleep.)
I've managed to hold down some water, PowerAde, and some sips of grape juice with no ill effects, and have taken my first Phenergan pill. I haven't vomited again since arriving at the Urgent Care Center, and feel a little better rested. In a bit, Mary Ellen is going to make some chicken bouillon for me to try sipping. Then I'm going back to bed again.
I'm really glad I have such a good neighbor, and I've told her so time and time again. I need to figure out something nice I can do for her after all this.
