A couple more TeleRead quickies by Yours Truly:

Controversial Tor freebies still controversially free – for some reason, Tor has never actually removed its free e-books from its server; they just took down the index file. So old links in their promo emails, or on blogs that created their own deep-linking index files when the books were still around, still work – at least for the moment. I posted in Tor's forum last night that the books were still available and was pooh-poohed by Tor rep Torie Atkinson, but the links still work even now, so whatever.

Fictionwise "Buywise" discount club membership currently better than pseudo-free – Until September 18th, Fictionwise is offering a $29.95 micropay rebate + up to $10 off any one e-book title for signing up for one year of its 15%-off "Buywise" discount club. Not a bad deal for the e-bookily-inclined, especially those with iPhones or iPod Touches.

What she said was that the files "have indeed been taken down from the server."

Without even, y'know, bothering to check or anything.

She's never struck me as the sharpest knife in the drawer.
