Into every life…
Mar. 31st, 2008 04:38 pmAround 3:00 or so, the wind began to howl outside, and we were warned that if we were leaving early, not to drive—that the wind was reported to have blown over cars and school buses. (Ouch.) I glanced outside, and sure enough, my scooter had been blown right over.
I went out to right it—it didn't look damaged—and then went out again after the secretary suggested I bring it into the front lobby to keep it from blowing over again. By the time I was done with that, my pants were soaked. Alas, I haven't taken a cue from Torg and supplied myself with emergency pants. Maybe I should. At the moment I'm considering whether to scoot home now, while it's still raining fairly hard, or to wait a bit in the hope it might let up.
In a final display of life's ironies, my supervisor called me into her office a few minutes ago to give me my yearly raise, effective for the pay period starting next Monday. I go up from $8 to $8.50. Except…actually, I probably won't. I hope to be in the IT department by then, and according to the personnel manager, raises don't travel with you if you're moving to a new position with a higher pay scale.
So in the end, it's pretty meaningless, save for the overall satisfactory evaluation that came with it. My supervisor said some pretty nice things about me in it—that I was "organized" and "efficient" (she's obviously never seen my apartment in its natural state), even if my invoice numbers had fallen off over the last few weeks, and that on the whole she was glad to have had me as an employee in the data entry department. So, as far as that goes, I'll just consider it a sort of "grace note" to my data entry career—the "shave-and-a-haircut, two bits" on which my tenure here ends. Ah, closure. :)
Still, it makes a nice ending to the day.
Now, I just hope I don't catch cold from these wet clothes. That would suck.
