Got my new scooter. More on that tomorrow.

When I was at the bank to get the money for it, I also snagged some more two dollar bills and intended to get some more golden dollar coins. But the teller (the same one who's helped me on my last few visits, so she knew my desires) said, "I'm sorry, all I have are these." And she put a huge roll of coins on the table that, when I investigated it, turned out to contain twenty Eisenhower dollars, vintage 1978. And I was immediately in love. I hadn't even realized that they had circulating dollar coins back then. "You don't happen to have any half dollars, too?" I asked. She did.

So I paid for my dinner tonight with a two dollar bill, an Eisenhower dollar coin, and a Kennedy fifty cent piece. The cashier at the taco place had to ask another cashier, "Is this real money?"

I'm going to have a lot of fun with these.

I'll have to tighten my belt, though, as one's pants get a trifle heavy when toting around a pound or so of change. I can see why these dollars never caught on outside of casinos. It's funny—the rattling sound these coins make when you jingle them is so different than the jingle you get from quarters-and-smaller. It's so unfamiliar, it almost makes it seem like it's not real money.
