In case folks were worried, it turned out not to be mumps. (What a relief, albeit hardly a surprise.) I had to wait until about 2:45 for the news though, rather than the noon it was supposed to be. I had to leave a number of messages on voicemail before they called me back. Doctor's instructions were to alternate hot and cold packs, take 2 Aleve every 8 hours for the pain as needed, and do what I already do anyway: suck. Well, suck on hard candy anyway. I have a bunch of sugar-free Pep-O-Mint lifesavers at work, which are good for healthy teeth and all, but if you eat too many of them you get diarrea-like symptoms, and I think I've had enough that I'm starting to feel those. I think I'm just going to have to hazard my teeth for a while.
I went in to work and worked for about three hours. Luckily they had an extra body on hand at the moment so they were able to cover my accounts without a problem. It's just a good thing I put in some extra hours of work earlier this week. By my calculations, I'm about 3 hours and 10 minutes behind for the week, so it looks like I'll be staying late after work again tomorrow, and maybe coming in on Saturday.
After work, I went over to Sandy's house, he served me dinner (chicken fried steak, yum), and then he, his wife Crissie, and I played a board game called Samurai, which involved putting down pieces on a hexagonal board to try to surround and capture various goal tokens. It was a pretty fun time.
Now I'm going to try to get to bed at a decent hour for once, so I get a good night's sleep. I slept really well last night; I'm hoping to continue the trend.
