A Mump in the Road

Per him, it is possible that I might have the Mumps. It's a parotid (salivary) gland that's swollen up, you see, and that's a symptom of Mumps.
It's very doubtful I actually do have it (the other gland isn't affected, and I don't feel sick in any other respects or exhibit any other Mumpian symptoms), but in the spirit of not taking chances the doctor prescribed a pair of blood tests, and staying home from work tomorrow until noon when I should hear the test results. If I do turn out to have it, I have to stay home from work for 9 days to avoid spreading it. Ouch.
What it's more likely to be is a "stone" in the saliva duct blocking things off. In order to clear that, if that's what it is, the doctor prescribed a protracted drooling session. (Well, all right, he said I need to salivate, by getting a big bag of my favorite sugar-free candy and sucking on it—but hey, drooling is drooling.)
