My weekend, and tonight's plans
Dec. 3rd, 2007 06:05 pmOn Saturday, my parents came up for a brief visit. We had lunch at Qdoba, then went out to a Persian rug shop that was having a closing/moving sale, and my parents spent approximately twice as much as my last car cost on a gorgeous 9' x 12' Persian rug for the floor of their new house, which they're hoping to have all built by next summer. I'm quite happy with the rug they chose, and I think I may even have nudged them over the edge into finalizing the selection. Not only was it utterly beautiful, but it was softer than any of the other rugs that I had felt there. I didn't think they'd find any that were better looking and softer, so I figured that it would be worth the nudge. (And hey, maybe a few decades down the road that rug will be mine. You have to think long-range in these things. :)
After that, we went back to my apartment and watched the latest episode of Heroes, which they'd missed the Monday it aired.
Sunday afternoon, my brother Aaron came over and we went out to the Century Buffet for lunch. Then, espying my rather ragged tennis shoes, Aaron said that I really needed a better pair, and so he drove me down to Kohl's and had me try on some shoes until I found some that I liked, and he bought them—to the tune of $50. He said that they would last considerably longer than two $25 pairs would, and I'm inclined to believe him.
Then we drove back to my apartment and I showed him all the trailers for Portal and Team Fortress 2. I spent the rest of the day finishing Half-Life 2 and then playing through Half-Life 2: Episode One with the commentary enabled.
Today after work, on the way home, I was behind a bright red Honda with the license plate SANGWN. Heh. That may be one of the most vocabularily obscure custom plates I've ever seen.
I'm planning to head out in a few minutes to grab a bite to eat and then see Brazil, which is playing at (S)MSU's auditorium tonight. I've always intended to see that movie, and this seems like a decent enough opportunity—even if it probably is being shown off of a DVD. I just wish I hadn't looked at IMDB's trivia section for it, though. I probably should have figured that would spoil the ending. Oh well, I'm positive I'll enjoy it anyway.
