A meme from [livejournal.com profile] archangelbeth, who asked me to explain three of my LJ icons and three of my interests. So, here they are.

This one is from my Jordan Greywolf art gallery, and I use a larger version of it, tiled, as the background for my own LJ's theme. Jordan Greywolf Peacock is a friend I made way back when I was active on FurryMUCK, and I was so impressed by his artwork of anthropomorphic and non-anthropomorphic unicorns that I requested permission to put up a page of them as an art gallery. And he granted it, and even though Jordan has gone on to make other art galleries of his more recent stuff, I've maintained that gallery ever since. To this day I'm not sure whether the unicorn in that image is casting a spell, manipulating some kind of holographic controls, dancing, or what; I've never asked Jordan and I don't even know if he'd remember by now. I tend to use the image on posts where I'm happy.

This is a scan of a little chop stamp that my Dad got in some Chinatown somewhere. At the top it says "Meadows," and below it "Meadows" is spelled out phonetically in archaic Chinese pictographs. At one time I knew what they translated into, but don't any longer. I tend to use it at odd times when I feel like identifying myself but not by means of my ugly mug.

This is Kim, a cat who used to hang around my neighborhood, and even in my apartment at odd times. He disappeared shortly before I moved or else I would have taken him with me; I believe he may have been hit by a car or something. (I called him Kim because he actually typed "Kim" on my keyboard with a random pawpress one time, and if Kipling can use it as a masculine name, then so can I. The other neighbors called him "Gato.") In this particular picture, he was sitting on top of my computer monitor, peering imperiously down. Because he looks kind of like he's glowering, I use this as an icon for whenever I'm annoyed about something.

Now for the interests:

de profundisDe Profundis: Letters from the Abyss was a "new age" epistolary roleplaying game where, to put it simply, people pretended they lived in a world of Lovecraftian horrors and wrote letters to one another just as Lovecraft's characters were wont to do. (For more detail, see an RPG.net review of it.) It was translated from Polish and published in English by James Wallis's Hogshead Entertainment, shortly before it went out of business. Leftover stocks of it were sold by Chaosium, as an adjunct to their Call of Cthulhu game; I had thought it now out of print, but it appears to be fully orderable from the site, or at least it lets me add it to my cart. Huh.

With permission from Wallis, back when the game was in his hands, I extracted the text of the game and marked it up into an eReader (nee Palm Reader, nee Peanut Reader) document, with a possible view toward Wallis trying to get it published via eReader (nee Palm Reader, nee Peanut Press), but Hogshead went under before that could happen—if it ever would really have happened anyway.

The game never really seemed to find much of an audience, and I never could find anyone to play it with. There was a Yahoo Group for it, but by now the only people who use it are the occasional spammer. Pity, really. It has the potential for being a lot of fun, especially if you take its epistolary guidelines and transpose them into other genres.

As a footnote, I released a copy of the printed version via Bookcrossing.com, the journal-and-pass-on book site, just for fun making my journal entry in the style of a De Profundis letter. And, to my amusement, several other people continued the notion.

mci — Not much to say here; I worked as a CS rep in an MCI call center for a couple of years, before they laid me off after being bought out and needing to close the local call center. I did pretty well there; I earned some awards for being one of the best reps in the entire center. I suppose I should excise "mci" from my interests, now that I've moved on with my life. I didn't even realize it was still there anymore.

suburban jungleThe Suburban Jungle webcomic, by John Robey. A rather clever anthropomorphic-animal webcomic strip, with some amusing storylines and a cute lead character reminiscent of characters I've written about or played in other settings. I tend to read it in chunks, then fall out of reading it, then fall back in. It's just about time for me to catch up on the last few months, one of these days…

There. Now I'm going to bed. If you want me to pick three of your LJ icons and interests for you to explain, tell me so in the comments.

Actually, your Uncle Denis got that chop to us when he was drafted and stationed in an island off of Taiwan back in the late sixties.
