Inspired by
demiurgent's use of this meme, I sat down and took a look at my own iTunes play counts to see what songs were in the range. Paraphrased, the questions go:
1) What's the most-played track in your mp3 collection, and how many times has it been played?
2) Divide that by two, round up.
3) Again divide that by two, round up.
4) Explain why those songs.
Well, my top song is
The Memory of Trees - Enya, The Memory Of Trees
This has been played 262 times, most recently at 1/15/2007 6:24 AM. The reason is that Memory of Trees is one of the albums I use to soothe myself to sleep. Other songs on the album have been played a couple fewer times, as there are some times I change my mind after listening to one or two songs. In fact, almost all my songs down to play count 55 are Enya songs; I have a lot of albums. Thus, the closest to 131 plays I have are:
Triad: St. Patrick / CĂș Chulainn / Oisin - Enya, The Celts 137 1/11/2007 6:03 AM
Boadicea - Enya, A Box of Dreams 118 1/12/2007 3:19 AM
And at 66 plays is
Book of Days - Enya, Shepherd Moons, last played 12/11/2006 9:25 AM.
However, at least some of those Enya songs would probably count higher if they took into account that Enya's "greatest hits" collection, A Box of Dreams, duplicates the songs on my other Enya albums.
At 65 plays is one of the few other artists' pieces interspersed at the lower end:
Adagio for Strings and Organ in G Minor - Gheorghe Zamfir, The Lonely Shepherd, last played 1/10/2007 6:36 AM
The first song from another soothing album, which I purchased after hearing Zamfir's "The Lonely Shepherd" featured in Kill Bill part 1, making it one of only a couple of entire albums I've bought via the iTunes Music Store.
If I'm doing a playlist of my most-frequently-played songs, I tend to have to do a smart playlist to exclude Enya and a handfull of others, or else it'll be a very boring playlist. :)
