Here I am again...
May. 2nd, 2005 12:16 pmThe weekend went decently; about as well as could be expected. We were in the upstairs portion of the testing center this time rather than the downstairs portion, and I actually like the upstairs facilities a bit better. No pool table and only a "normal"-sized TV screen, but the bedroom facilities all have nice heavy doors on them that can be closed to seal out external noise and light—which means it's possible to get a decent amount of sleep for a change, even before the official lights-out. I slept from about 7 to 10 Saturday night, in addition to the 11-6:30 sleep period that night, so I felt almost human all through Sunday. For most of the weekend, there were only the twelve of us involved in the one study using facilities meant for about three times as many people, so we kind of rattled around like peas in a pod and didn't have any problems watching what we wanted to watch on the TV with attached DVD player.
I actually was able to obtain Internet access of a sort, due to the new Super Cantenna I bought last week; it enabled me to reach out and latch onto a wireless connection from somewhere nearby, probably somebody's house. It was a faint signal, barely sufficient to do some web browsing and email, but it was enough to preserve my sanity. The only annoyance was that the folks from whom I ordered the antenna sent me the wrong cable (for the wireless PC card in my laptop, not the PCI card in my desktop), so I was only able to get access on my old Powerbook laptop—or the Windows laptop my brother had along. Try as we might, we were unable to get Internet connection sharing to work with either machine to the wireless router I had brought. As an experiment, I put City of Heroes on the Windows laptop and tried playing it a little, but the connection was so bad that I got endless rubber-banding so I had to give it up. Hopefully the right cable will arrive by next weekend and I can just take my desktop machine.
Played a game of the Munchkin D&D parody card game and a couple of games of Betrayal at the House on the Hill, a game of horror movie exploration; also got a few movies watched, including a couple from Greencine that I'd been holding onto for a while with the intention of watching "sooner or later". I'll probably write up a mini-review and post it in my essay journal.
Two more weekends to go. Looking forward to the time when I can just sit at home all weekend and play me some dawn-to-dusk City of Heroes again.
