"So how did you get this gig, Riff?" Torg asked, watching the raven-haired singer.

Riff looked up from the mixing board. "What?"

"I said how did you—oh, take the earplugs out already!"

"Connections."

"Good thing, too. After they threw you out of the maintenance corps..."

"It wasn't my fault Kiki got loose in that Valkyrie…"

"You did leave your candy bar in the cockpit, though. Hey, where is she, anyway?"

"Wheee!" A Petite Cola machine rolled by, ridden by a hyperactive ferret clutching a cola can and a bunny waving a switchblade. Concert-goers scattered in all directions.

"...never mind."
