Well, I realize I haven't said much lately. There's a good reason for that; City of Heroes has been eating my brain.

I've made some good progress in it, though. I have one character, Purramedic, up to level 43.6, and another up to level 38. I expect to get Purra to level 50 in plenty of time to take advantage of one of the new Epic Archetypes that are coming in with the next free update to City of Heroes in January.

Work has been all right; nothing to write home about but I've been steadily learning how to do more stuff better.

Had a visit a few weeks ago from my friend [livejournal.com profile] tbutler. Prompted me to get my room cleaned up for a change. Hasn't stayed that way, though...need to attack it again this weekend.

Funny thing, just the other day...I followed a chain of links from Websnark that led me to the webcomic 21st Century Fox, which happened to be drawn by an old writing buddy of mine from about ten years ago. Turns out he even has a Livejournal, [livejournal.com profile] kelloggs2066. Back in the day, we wrote a lot of stuff together for the newsgroup alt.pub.havens-rest (now largely defunct). Interesting times. Someday I should go back, reread all that old stuff, cringe badly, and...well, probably not write more, since nobody would be reading it now.

Still...those were the days.

Haven’t read 21st Century Fox in awhile, but I liked it. What did Havens-Rest refer to? (The first two links on that page no longer work, whoever owns them now etc. ...)

Oh, crud, I forgot: the webhost from which I moved my old site doesn't allow directories without index files in 'em. I need to build index files for those story directories so they'll work again.

alt.pub.havens-rest is a newsgroup that was a big writing circle back in the early '90s when the Internet was basically email, relay chat, and USENET, so if you were doing writing, listservs (such as Superguy) and USENET groups were the only games in town. A lot of good writing came out of those days. Thanks to Google Groups's backward-in-time expansion over Deja, you can actually dig up a lot of it now, too.

alt.pub.dragons-inn and alt.pub.havens-rest were fantasy and SFnal counterparts; the title in both cases referred to a bar/cafe/pub-type place like Spider Robinson's Callahan's. People would "hang out" there, writing stories and conversation chains that took place entirely within the bar, or within the local environment to it. Some folks, such as [livejournal.com profile] foomf, wrote just for Dragon's Inn, others, like [livejournal.com profile] liralen IIRC, wrote for both (and [livejournal.com profile] liralen also wrote for alt.cyberpunk.chatsubo, a Cyberpunk counterpart to the above-mentioned two). [livejournal.com profile] kellogs2066 and Mike Metlay (http://www.atomiccity.com/artists/metlay) were part of one of the writing groups I was involved with on Haven's Rest.

I'll try to throw together an index page for those directories sometime today.

OK, those links will be working now.

Time to read 'em and weep. Or at least I'll weep...I haven't looked at them in so long, and I've improved immeasurably since then... ;)
