Nov. 2nd, 2004 05:46 pmWell, don't I feel stupid?
Sunday night, I happened to notice that the clock on my cellphone was an hour off from the clock on my computer. Now, given that I set my cellphone clock manually and my computer automatically updates itself, that right there should have told me something. I suppose it says something about my state of mind that I assumed something had gone funky with the cellphone. Maybe its battery had glitched or something.
Since I use my computer so much, I went to bed by its clock. I thought I went to bed at a decent enough hour...but when my alarm went off at 7:30 and I woke up, I felt ungodly tired for some reason. Add to this the fact that it was raining outside, bleah, and I knew that the bus I needed to catch to connect to the bus to work (instead of biking down to catch it) went by at about 45 past the hour, and I didn't have time to do anything but dress, shave, and scurry out the door. This I did, not even letting myself get to my computer, because I knew if I sat down at it, I'd be fatally distracted.
Headed across the street to Sonic, to get breakfast and change for the bus. After I placed my order, I saw the bus I needed to catch pass me by, and I sighed; looked like I would be biking it after all. Then the Sonic girl who brought me my order said something about how they don't actually open until 7...and I was like, "Hunh???"
And that's when it dawned on me. Sunday morning, we'd fallen back...and nobody had told me. The chatroom where I hang out, and mention is usually made when it's time to spring forward and fall back, hadn't mentioned it, and I was largely just playing computer games all day, not really looking at any clocks...and so I'd never noticed. At least I found out before I got all the way to work.
Well, today I voted. I had been a little concerned; my friends had advised going down and voting early before heading to work, least there be horrible lines by the afternoon, but by the time I got to bed last night, I knew that in order to get my beauty sleep I'd need to get up at the usual 7:30, and dash to work to get there by 8:30. This I did, and it turned out to be the wise decision. When I spoke to my boss, he said he'd voted before work that morning, and there was about a 30 to 45 minute wait.
After work was over, I biked over to the polling place, my iPod playing Dream Theater's "Images and Words" album which had come up on random album play. There were only about six people in line (all of them in the line for my portion of the alphabet, oddly enough). Ten minutes later, it was done, my choices clearly recorded on the paper ballot (no voting machine highjinks here, thank you very much!) and dropped into the lockbox, and I was out of there.
I've updated my essay journal with a bit about the election day, and an earlier bit about my new iPod. Now I'm going to go play some City of Heroes.
