So, here I am, it's day two of my new job. And I'm sure you're all dying to know how I'm doing.

The answer: It seems okay so far...

Yesterday (Wednesday) morning started far too bright and early as I awoke at 6:30 after tossing and turning until somewhere around 2 a.m. I ate breakfast, packed a lunch of cold pizza, and bicycled over to the bus stop to await the bus. From looking at the bus route map, it looked as though I would be able to catch one bus down Glenstone to the intersection of Glenstone and Sunshine, and then the other bus (which doesn't go to the transfer station) down Sunshine to the job. Only it didn't work out that way; the driver said that Sunshine and Glenstone was not a transfer point because there was nowhere for the bus to wait to meet this bus. I elected to try anyway...only to see the bus I wanted to catch pass the intersection as I was still waiting for the bus I was on to let me and my bike off. If I wanted to transfer, basically, I would have to have caught my bus half an hour earlier and then ridden it all the way down to Battlefield Mall.

Oh well. The whole reason I'd brought my bike (on the neat-o bike carrier on the front of the bus) was in case that happened, so I wasn't too worried. I biked the rest of the way down Sunshine to the job-place, stopping briefly at an OscoDrug on the way for toothpaste and razor blades. The Osco counter lady was nice, cheerful, and optimistic when I told her I was going to my first day of my new job. Cheered me up a bit as I returned to the bike and got on my way.

Arrived at the workplace at about 7:55. I had thought I was supposed to be there at 8:30, but I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to be a little early. The office was closed, so I sat down to wait for George, my boss, to show up. And wait, and wait, and wait...and finally he got there at about 9. Apparently he doesn't come in 'til 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Well, I know that now.

The first couple hours of the first day were spent in me reading a book called How the Internet Works, which was basically a big illustrated picture book for Internet kindergartners. I didn't mind so much; I actually managed to learn a thing or two, even if most of it was stuff I already knew. Then George set me up on the computer in the small office room and I started reading through the knowledgebase which contained information about the webhosting service. After I finished that, I worked on my webpages for the rest of the day as a method of learning my way around the control panel on my own new domain.

Today, George suggested I get in about 8:30 so I could leave about 4:30. This was agreeable to me, and it coincided with the bus schedule, so this morning I biked down to the Sunshine and Glenstone intersection to catch the other bus—the one I got to see go by me yesterday. It trucked me down Sunshine to the place of work, which was about 2/3 of the total distance. I need to see if I can manage to get off work a few minutes early so I can be sure and catch it when I leave and not have to wait another 55 minutes.

Anyway, today was spent largely looking over the technical back-end of the helpdesk interface I'll be using to support the customers, and a little more site-noodling. George is still in the process of making sure everything is set up for me, leaving me with little to do except reread the support knowledgebase and perhaps tinker with the control panel and my website some more. Which I've been doing.

As part of the new job, I've gotten my own web domain hosted: terrania.us. There's really not much on it yet, just a mirror of my eyrie.org homepage (with dead links and such pared away) and art galleries. At some point once I'm more satisfied with it I'll probably remove my Eyrie pages altogether and this will be my new webspace. That's a bit in the future, though. I'd like to construct a frontpage relating to Terrania, the fictitious European country in my Superguy stories (loosely inspired by Leonard Wibberly's Mouse that Roared books), to replace my own "homepage" but I'm not sure yet what direction I want to go with that.

One thing I have done, though, was to start a blog in that webspace, called That's All I've Got to Say. I plan to use that space for editorials, essays, reviews, opinions, and such, and thus reserve this space for chronicling my day-to-day life. (So, that's right Mom & Dad, you now have two sites to check instead of just the one. Well, I'll probably mention Blog essays here as I write them, but...)

Anyway, best get back to the job.
