Shortly after I finished that last entry, [livejournal.com profile] tbutler and his friends came back by, and we headed out to Gates. Travis and I actually got lost on the way out of the parking garage, and by the time we got out, we couldn't find the friends. Fortunately, we were all communicating via walkie-talkie (I had given one of the pair in my car to Travis, and it turned out Travis's friends had their own compatible walkie-talkie so we could communicate three-way) and were able to find them after a few minutes of driving around.

Dinner conversation was interesting. Travis's friends were the people who ran the Edge Books stand in the dealer room. I had thought they ran a bookstore somewhere in "real life," but it turned out that they don't—they just sell books at cons. Interesting idea, a "virtual bookstore".

After supper, Travis's friends headed out of town, Travis headed back to his apartment, and I headed back north to the convention hotel for the Dead Dog party. I got to hang out with a lot of cool people, including a few Baen Barflies and, of course, John Ringo. It was great...Ringo's a cool guy in person. Voluable, talkative, great storyteller. And he seemed genuinely friendly toward me. He was glad to see me at the party, or at least he acted that way. And when he saw me coming out to the lobby, he asked if I was leaving. I'd said I wasn't, but now I'm thinking I probably am going to, and wish I could find him to say goodbye for real, but he's gone off somewhere.

It's about time to call it a con and hit the road, I think...drive on down to Travis's apartment, shower, and crash. Stuff to do tomorrow, plus the drive back home. Promises to keep, miles to go before I sleep, yadda yadda.

It's been fun.
