This has been a hard convention on my glasses.

Last night, as we were finally packing everything up to head back to Travis's to sleep, I yanked the plug-in of my computer out of the wall a bit hard, and it flew up and hit me in the face...knocking a chip out of my left glasses lens. This quite annoyed me, as the white dot was just floating there in front of my vision...I resolved to see about getting the glasses replaced when I get back down to Springfield.

Well, the good news is, that chip now is almost unnoticeable...the bad news is, that the way it's almost unnoticeable is in comparison to what I did to the glasses this afternoon. While I was at the John Ringo reading, I pulled a 3M cleaning cloth out of my pocket to tidy up the glasses...and apparently it had something embedded in it, because after I had wiped it all around, my glasses looked like I'd scribbled on them with a ball-point pen. I scratched the anti-reflective coating all to heck. Very annoying.

Anyway, this morning [livejournal.com profile] tbutler and I got up and headed downtown to get to the area of the convention and meet [livejournal.com profile] dvandom for lunch before he headed back out of town. We lunched at a Planet Sub location near the hotel and talked about various things. Very, very good lunch; I wish Planet Sub would expand down to Springfield. Beats Subway all to heck.

After that, Dvandom went on his way and we headed to the hotel, to get me to the John Ringo reading not long after it had started. It was fun and enjoyable. Afterward, I went down to a nearby Walmart to see if they could do anything for my glasses, but they couldn't. By the time I'd gotten back, the dealer room had closed—I'd thought it was going to be open later, so I didn't have the chance to buy the thing I'd wanted. But I probably spent too much money this weekend anyway, so it's just as well.

After the con activity wound down, Travis wanted to show a couple of his friends from Louisiana, who were up running a bookshop stand in the dealer room, Union Station, then go out to eat BBQ at Gates. Since I hadn't gotten to eat BBQ yet this weekend and was thus falling way behind, I agreed to come along. I'd seen the Station before, but that just meant I could sit here in front of the coffee shop and surf the net and write this entry while they trudge around. After dinner, I'll be heading back out to the 'con to hit the "dead dog" party, then heading back to Travis's for the night. I hadn't originally planned to hit the D.D., but John Ringo happened to tell me he'd be there, implying that he'd like to see me there...and what the heck, he tells great stories and is fun to hang around with.
