Well, when I got up this morning, it had been raining a bit during the night, and the rain had been freezing, so I nearly came a cropper as I stepped out the door. I sprinkled a bit of ice melt salt on it to prevent anyone from hurting themselves, and headed off to work.

Work was decent, with the minor exception that one of the call centers was down due to bad weather...so whenever I transferred someone to Small Business Long Distance, I could depend on a hold time of from 12 to 22 minutes...and since policy is we have to stay on all transferred calls until we get through to someone, that meant my average call handling time for today went through the roof...and it was pretty bad already.

And the last couple of days I seem to have come down with a mild cold, at least to the extent of a sore throat. I've upped my vitamin C intake, and I bought three 20-oz bottles of orange juice at Kmart on the way in and drank them on the job and with lunch. I wanted to get some herbal tea, too, but Kmart doesn't carry it and no place else was convenient to work. I also intend to get plenty of rest tonight. Anyway...at least the cold didn't get any worse.

When work was over, I came out of the job-place to find an inch or so of snow on the ground. So, of course, I proceeded to drive across town to turn some books in to the library and check out a few more. Needed to get the next couple in the Aurian series by Maggie Furey that a co-worker turned me onto, and there were a couple of Gaiman novels right next to her in the alphabet that looked interesting enough to grab while I was at it. On the way home, I stopped at the EZ Takeout Burger place for a couple of their 99-cent-after-5-on-Sun-Mon-and-Wed burgers...quite filling, and at least as good as I could have done myself for the price. Got home, shovelled off the steps, and dusted a lot more ice-melt salt onto it; hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get to the car without slipping.

Work today seemed to go pretty quickly...though part of it may just have been I was reading a good book. I've been rereading Bujold's The Curse of Chalion preparatory to getting my hands on the sequel somehow, and man is that a good book. Bujold has a very distinctive style—she writes her characters as life's straight-men, encountering the quirks of fate with wry wit and amusing asides. I look forward to reading more. (I'm kind of regretting having left Curse at work now, but I know that if I hadn't, I'd be up 'til all hours reading it, and might just as well get more rest and save it for work time.)

And that's my day.
